(AP) – A company that’s building a casino in Philadelphia has won the right to put up a mini-casino across Pennsylvania in Westmoreland County in the second auction of licenses.
Elsewhere, Cordish Gaming Group is currently building a mini-casino in Hempfield Township, Westmoreland County, while Parx Casino has one on the drawing board for Shippensburg, Cumberland County. 2, businessman Ira M. Lubert won the latest auction to build a mini-casino. The gaming operator was among the first in Pennsylvania to submit a winning bid for a satellite casino license, in this case for $40.1 million, which will apparently put 750 slot machines and 30.

Stadium Casino Westmoreland, an affiliate of The Cordish Companies has recently officially marked the beginning of the construction of its casino project in the county. The $150 million Live! Casino project kicked off with a groundbreaking ceremony that was graced by a number of high-ranking state officials as well as leading stakeholders in the gambling business. Some of these stakeholders included business leaders in the region, leaders of the tourism sector and even representatives of the host community. Also present were Kim Ward, the Senator of Pennsylvania and George Dunbar, the State Representative.
Project Highlights
The $150-million project will involve the construction of a 100,000-square-foot gambling and hospitality facility in the Keystone State’s Hempfield Township. The construction, as it turns out, will be part of the Westmoreland Mall development which will cover a total of 1.3 million square feet. The mall is already a very popular development owing to the fact that it is set to have a range of social and economic impacts on the state. This is in regards to the creation of jobs and increased revenue streams to the county and township. That said, the addition of the casino project was just as welcome since it promises just as many benefits.
The gaming and hospitality facility will have a rather wholesome gambling offering that will include a sportsbook, about 30 live-action gaming tables as well as 750 slots machines. As for its hospitality facility, there will a decent number of popular restaurant brands and several live entertainment areas. This is definitely a great start.
Experts expect it to generate a whopping $148 million in economic impact during the construction phase. It will also create over 960 direct and indirect construction jobs during the said phase. Once complete, Live! Casino will generate approximately $188 million in annual revenue. In addition to that, it will also create over 500 new permanent jobs for state residents.
Expansion in the Keystone State
The Cordish Companies have been rather aggressive in its pursuit of expansion in the lucrative and growing Pennsylvanian gaming market. Everyone has very high hopes for the recently launched Live! Casino project. Aside from Westmoreland, the gaming and hospitality operator has also recently broken ground on a Live! Casino & Hotel project in Philadelphia.
